Kahii

Kahii, situated in Sydney’s CBD on Kent Street, draws inspiration from the first Japanese kissaten, offering a blend of coffee culture and fine dining experiences. Co-owner Edmond Loo, influenced by his time in Japan, aims to recreate the laid-back atmosphere of kissatens, featuring mellow jazz music and a focus on quality coffee sourced from Colombia, Brazil, and Kenya. The café boasts a sleek Japanese-inspired design, with recent renovations enhancing its aesthetic appeal, making it an ideal spot for business meetings, drinks, or dinner dates.
During the day, Kahii serves a selection of Korean-inspired pastries from Tenacious Bakehouse, alongside its specialty coffees roasted in-house. Noteworthy breakfast options include the mandu, a Korean dumpling filled with minced pork and vegetables, available until 5 pm. By evening, Kahii transforms into a candlelit wine bar, offering an extensive wine list curated by passionate sommeliers, showcasing French drops alongside Japanese beers and sake.

While Kahii doesn’t have its own kitchen, dishes for evening service are prepared by its sister restaurant, Kuro Bar and Dining, featuring modern Australian cuisine with French and Japanese influences. Executive chef Taka Teramoto crafts a menu designed to complement the wine selection, with highlights such as salmon sashimi, saltbush tempura, aged duck, and Blackmore Wagyu. The venue aims to provide patrons with a welcoming and relaxed environment to enjoy specialty coffee or niche wines, inviting guests to take a moment out of their busy day to indulge in a cup of coffee or a glass of wine.
