Parami

Parami, a Japanese cafe nestled in Sydney’s CBD, offers a cozy retreat serving a variety of Japanese snacks and sweets, with a focus on the beloved comfort food, onigiri. Onigiri, also known as rice balls, is a staple in Japanese cuisine, celebrated for its portability and versatility in pairing with various savory fillings. Parami boasts around eight onigiri varieties, including popular options like salted salmon, tuna and mayonnaise, and chicken soboro, all made on-site using top-quality koshihikari rice from Toyama prefecture.
In addition to onigiri, Parami features a range of sweet and savory bread rolls, such as prawn cocktail and egg mayonnaise, along with an assortment of sweets like crème caramel, cookies, and mochi. The cafe adopts a mix-and-match style reminiscent of Japanese convenience stores, allowing customers to curate their snacking experience. Unlike traditional konbini, Parami offers Single O’s Killerbee coffee and single-origin matcha from Yame, Fukuoka, adding to the cafe’s unique blend of Japanese flavors and contemporary coffee culture.

For co-owner Mika Kazato, onigiri holds a special place, evoking childhood memories of growing up surrounded by rice fields in the countryside of Oita prefecture. With its nostalgic offerings and dedication to quality, Parami provides a taste of Japan’s culinary heritage in the heart of Sydney’s bustling cityscape, offering patrons a brief escape to a tiny inner-city sanctuary filled with Japanese comfort food.
