Shuk Surry Hills, a Middle Eastern eatery, found a new home in the former space of Maloneys Grocer during its renovations. Co-owner Yoni Kalfus reflects on the cafe’s evolution over the past decade and its recent partnership with Maloneys, which has been well-received by locals. Inspired by the vibrant bakeries of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, head chef German Sanchez infuses Shuk’s menu with North African and French-style bakery influences, offering a variety of freshly baked goods daily.
The Surry Hills store features a counter filled with an array of bread and pastries, including rugelach, bagels, and challah, alongside Shuk’s signature dishes like avocado and goat’s curd toast and rosy shakshuka. Additionally, Shuk products such as Nutella crunch and almond granola are available for purchase at Maloneys. The cafe’s interior combines elements of its original style with Parisian cafe chairs and terrazzo marble, creating an urban-European ambiance.
